The Time Is Right . . .

. . .

The time is right for our next leader and it’s easier then any of them can possibly imagine. All the next leader has to do is show the people that he or she is going to lead for them. But who is going to rise above the rest?

Yesterday, Senator John Edwards gave a speech that was almost the speech of this century . . . I say almost for he left out one thing that would seal the deal . . . BRING EM HOME.

But I’m still hoping he’ll realize that our policies are just a set of lies. I could go through the run down but that’s your job to pick your candidate, I just know Edwards so far has a far lead for me. And it’s simply because I think his heart is clearly in my camp . . . The rest I’m sure is looking somewhere else.

I paraphrased Senator Edwards speech at St. Anselm’s College, October 29, 2007.

“Many of you know that I am the son of a mill worker – that I rose from modest means and have been blessed in so many ways in life…

And all of you know about some of the challenges we have faced in my family. But there came a time, a few months ago, when Elizabeth and I had to decide, in the quiet of a hospital room, after many hours of tests and getting pretty bad news – what we were going to do with our lives.

And we made our decision. That we were not going to go quietly into the night – that we were going to stand and fight for what we believe in…”

“Down one path, we trade corporate Democrats for corporate Republicans; our cronies for their cronies; one political dynasty for another…

I run for president for my father who worked in a mill his entire life and never got to go to college the way I did.

I run for president for all those who worked in that mill with my father. I run for president for all those who lost their jobs when that mill was shut down.

I run for president for all the women who have come up to Elizabeth and me and told us that like Elizabeth they had breast cancer – but unlike Elizabeth they did not have health care.

I run for president for twenty generations of Americans who made sure that their children had a better life than they did…

I carry the promise of America in my heart, where my parents placed it. Like them, like you, I believe in people, hard work, and the sacred obligation of each generation to the next…

This is our time now. It falls to us to redeem our democracy, reclaim our government and relight the promise of America for our children…“

Taken from Remarks by Senator John Edwards
St. Anselm’s College, Manchester, New Hampshire
October 29, 2007

I believe Mr. Edwards knows our pain, I know he knows mine . . . My son is a CANCER-SURVIVOR. I know pain. I’ve learned compassion. Mr. Edwards knows also . . . And in writing this, I’m sure he is the only one that does . . . The Brave Few.

Gone Forever

Walking, slowly
through the yard,
broken, rusted objects
line the driveway, far
as I can see.

It seems, I’ve entered a graveyard,
where old things die,
items that once brought
so much joy, now
they are but junk.

Growing sad, I realize,
someone’s dreams lie there
in the ruins, rotting, waiting
to be revived, like
a phoenix, to live again.

Most are not reborn,
they are gone,
gone forever and
so are the
dreams.

Choose Your Own Heroes . . .

. . .

Just because someone does great things, is not reason enough to make them your hero, is it? I wonder . . .

Athletes never asked to be our heroes. Teams buy the best players, because we like our teams to win. And not unlike you, players work for the team that pays them the most . . .

And we watch them work and when our team wins, we worship them and those that excel. They become our heroes. Not because they saved a life, not because they were good people, but because they played a game we loved well.

So let me ask you this, did you lie on your resume to get your job? Did you tell a few fibs on your taxes? Did you act on a tip that maybe wasn’t as ethical as . . .

All of us are heroes. If we hold one accountable, all of us should be held to the same standard. Our children will become what they see in us. If you lie, they’ll lie. If you cheat, they’ll cheat. And if you kill, chances are they will too.

Athletes are human too . . . They make mistakes. We may not like that, but we need to accept the fact. Most recent fallen hero, Michael Vick, quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons . . . Maybe ex-quarterback?

One mistake and you’re out . . . Our society has fallen, we no longer wait for the trial before convicting, the media makes sure we do it as quickly as they push us to do it. Once we hung criminals the same day as the offense, once we tarred and feathered those that showed their immoral side.

My Little Experiment . . .

. . . A Constant Reminder

So far I just have two comments on my quest to build Friends Around The World . . . Each day I will post the list and share my experience.

Friends Around The World . . .
Waukesha, Wisconsin
Plano, Texas

Today, I start a journey,
somewhere between birth and
death,

Sitting, analyzing, wondering,
what makes a man
remembered?

Is it, his frailty,
his pride or just his
naivete?

Today, I remove the worn
planks of decking, exchanging them, for
concrete,

For those I have touched, have I given them
a strength or a weakness, to be ground away by time?

Babylon Revisited

War started today,
our missiles banged
into Baghdad,
disappointment has crept
into my thoughts,
for my country
started the war.

We watched as
if we were innocent,
viewing scenes of death and
dying, strategies were
discussed as in sport,
all are guilty, like
the nazi’s, for not saying
no, for not protesting.

Each action will
be recorded, remembered,
discussed, so it will
never happen again, but
it will, it always does,
I wonder, who will be
remembered as being
right, no one yet knows.

I am saddened,
saddened that we forgot,
that war is hell and death
is forever, that prisoners
are tortured and war
never brings peace,
only suffering.

tell me

tell me

Tell me something i
did not know anything will do
tell me of loves lost

tell me tell me those
thoughts of secret vices
camouflaged indiscretions

hidden emotions left
over from the truth tell me your
deep seated desires

give me reason to
go on a will to right the
woes of the weak a

reason to be to
fight the good fight and i’ll
be there for you too.
